"He causeth the grass to grow for food, and herb for the service of man: that he may bring forth food out of the earth; And wine that maketh glad the heart of man, and oil to make his face to shine, and bread which strengtheneth a man's heart." ~Psalm 104: 14-15

6 ways to avoid sicknes

When trying to avoid sickness, somethings are very important. (I'm starting to think they're just as important as washing hands and not letting someone cough on you...) Maybe you feel like you've heard this before, that everyone says these are important...but do you really want to stay healthy? Then why not do as many of these as you can? :]

  • Get a lot of sleep. At least as much as you normally need, and maybe some extra.
  • Drink plenty of water or good herbal teas; and then drink some more!
  • Get some good hearty, healthy food in you: try Bone broth, fresh orange juice, and farm fresh eggs!
  • Take something to help give a boost to your immune system. I love elderberry syrup for this, as well as all those great teas from Bulk Herb Store (like Doube-E Immune booster, Dr. Cinnamon, and Lemon Drop-which have a lot of Vitamin C!).  Don't do this long term, but if you've just been coughed on, feel an itch in your throat, or some other sign of impending "doom," that might be a good time!    (If you do start to get sick, the following is especially helpful right at the beginning. Some say zinc is good then too.)
  • Don't cringe and run away, but consider garlic. Crushed and made into garlic-toast, soaked in vinegar and downed with honey and a glass of water, lightly sauteed in butter/olive oil and drizzled over toast (oh delicious!) or anything else you might be eating....just eating a bunch of garlic can help your body kill off any nasty little germs that you might have bumped into... though taking a lot of it raw on an empty stomach can cause problems (and if you go over to Bulk Herb Store Blog, they have several articles now telling all about garlic, and what you can do with it.)
  • Eat less sugar. Other "refined" foods also weaken your bodies natural defenses as well, so really, if you try to avoid them for just a little while (like, before Christmas, and when you really really dont want to get sick!)... you probably wont regret it!

So, eat well, get your rest, and  think about what you're doing to help or hinder your bodies efforts to keep healthy!
